| | The name of EPONA |
| | The gaulish name of Epona is the latin equivalent of the celtic goddess ekuo-na; the meaning of the prefixes ekuo- and epo- is horse.
|
| | When Caesar conquered the former roman province of Gaul, the goddess gained access to the roman pantheon by means of a general practice, that is many of the deities of the newly conquered territories were accepted and recognised as roman deities. |
